1. colour film has narrower DR compared to bw.
this is one reason many pros refused to go over to colour film in the old days..
converting from colour to bw wont increase information. The best you can do when turning it to bw is to retain what it has. so naturally it won't be better than bw.
2.The latest CMOS sensors (e.g. pentax k-5) can cover 14 stops. so if you take a picture using this kind of sensor then very likely you'd retain more details in a high dr scene than the one shot with black and white film. |
